Acclimating Your Fish

General Care

 Angelfish Description

Acclimating your new Angelfish

When your new Angelfish arrive be prepared to acclimate them. You will need to have a few items on hand before your fish arrive, as follows:

     1. Clean Bucket 5 gallon works well. (for fish use only)

     2. A long piece of airline tube, you will need to tie a loose knot in this.

     3. A cycled bare bottom quarantine tank.

Upon arrival you will need to open your bags of fish and gently pour all contents into your bucket. You will need to place the bucket near the tank they will be going in, in a lower position to the tank. Using the airline tubing create a siphon (from quarantine tank to the bucket) using your knot to regulate the flow of water to one drip per second. After about 30 minutes you may loosen the knot  a bit and increase by a couple of drips per second. You may keep using this procedure until the amount of water in the bucket has doubled ( or more ) the amount that originally came from the fish bags.  Once doubled ( or more ) gently net the fish and move them to their tank. Making sure not to add any of the water from the bucket. Leave the tanks lights off and let your new fish get used to their surroundings.

After 8-12 hours you may offer them there first meal. Keep in mind to feed the lightly for the first few days.

You will need to quarantine your new fish .

Quarantining your new Angelfish

Anytime you receive any new fish it is wise to quarantine them in their own tank for 4-6 weeks. This means no net sharing or putting anything including your hands in any other tank. You will need to use a mild bleach and water solution to soak all nets and any equipment used so you are not sharing anything at all from one tank to another. After bleaching rinse well and allow to air dry completely.

Always wash hands before putting them in any tank.

Before adding any fish that are in quarantine to your existing aquarium add one of fish from established tank into their tank for a few weeks if all remain healthy you may at this time add your fish to the existing aquarium safely. You may want to move some plants and decoration around in the tank so the fish won't be so territorial and accepting new fish will be much easier for them all. If you are unsure or have any questions regarding your new angels please fell free to contact me ASAP as I am more than willing to be of help to you.

 Enjoy your new Angelfish!!!!!
